Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! All flight operations are required to abide by safety restrictions to ensure the well-being of the students, as well as the pilots. Haski Aviation takes safety seriously and all systems on the aircraft are inspected prior to takeoff. In addition, all of our instructors are FAA certified and trained in safety procedures, as well as emergency operations to ensure safety. Weather conditions are also a major factor in safety, and it is constantly monitored to keep you safe. We have an on-site Weather computer to give us current weather conditions as well as a weather map and local radar representation to inform us of upcoming weather conditions. If weather is questionable, your flight will be rescheduled or, for students, ground lessons will be assigned. If the weather is questionable on the day of your flight, Haski Aviation will reschedule to avoid any problems. If you have any other questions about safety, please call us  at (724)652-5546.

If the weather is bad on the day of your flight, Haski Aviation  will reschedule your flight so that you will have the best possible  flying experience. If you have any questions about the weather on  the day of your flight, call us at (724)652-5546 and we will  discuss your options.

To schedule an airplane ride, discovery flight, or first flight lesson, or find out more details or ask any  other questions, call us at (724)652-5546. Rebecca, our flight school coordinator can get your scheduled and/or provide tours if you stop in or any of our office staff can get you on the schedule.

Our rates include both the rental of the plane and the pilot. The cost for an hour ride is $199.00 for up to three passengers. For all flights, the cost is pro-rated according to the amount of air time.

A discovery flight is $125.00 for a 1 hour block. This block includes both ground and flight time for one person (if you are under 18, a parent or guardian may attend as well). You will meet with an instructor to go over the basics of earning a private pilot license and then take some time to go up in our airplane and fly around our training pattern.

The cost varies depending on how long it takes you to master the skills required, but the average cost ranges between $11,226 - $19,934 including training, supplies, books, medical, and testing (not all places include line items outside of training, see a breakdown on the next page).

In order to obtain a pilot’s license, there are two requirements you must meet. The first is that you need to be at least 16 years old to apply for a student pilot’s certificate. You can apply for your private pilot certificate when you are 17 years old. You also need to be able to obtain an FAA airman’s medical from a designated physician.

To obtain your private pilot’s certificate, you need a minimum of 35 flight hours. You will also need to pass the FAA Knowledge Exam on rules and regulations, as well as your practical exam with the FAA designated examiner. Please note that it usually takes an average of 55-85 hours to be ready for your practical exam.

While there are a set number of minimum required hours, you can train in your own time. We’ve had students that fly 4 or 5 times a week and others that fly once every week or two. Your instructor will work with you to set up the best, individualized schedule for your needs.

On average, the aircraft can carry up to two adult or one adult and 2 children per flight in addition to the pilot. Aircraft are very dependent on an accurate weight and balance calculation, so those numbers can vary depending on the amount of fuel and weight of the passengers and pilot in the plane.

Yes, with our design your own route option, it is possible to fly over your house, school, neighborhood or any other location that you have  always wanted to see from a bird’s eye view. Each flight is customized to the passengers, all you need to do is tell your pilot the location before takeoff and off you go! Don’t forget your camera, as pictures will be a fun way to document your experience and help you remember it for years to come!
